WHAT IS A DRONE BUSINESS ARCHITECT AND WHY THIS TRAINING?

 

The course is based on the principle that those who want to develop drone applications should not only be at home in technology, but also have knowledge of drone legislation and aviation aspects such as navigation and aerodynamics. In addition, a Drones Business Architect must have the right skills to draw up a business plan, possibly supplemented by an innovation dossier. Therefore, this postgraduate consists of the following modules: Aviation, Technology and Business.

Within the training programme, attention is also paid to practical cases. For example, we receive guest speakers from companies and knowledge centres who, together with the students, develop their drone business idea into a full-fledged business plan and innovation trajectory.

The drone business school is a hybrid learning platform. A large part of the theory lessons can be followed both on location and online remotely. This way you decide how and when you follow the training. In addition, students are immersed in the business world through real business cases and we create a perfect mix between theory and practice!

The student has a bachelor’s or master’s degree. Prior knowledge is not necessary as the modules are constructed in such a way that the basic aspects of each specific field are based on the basic aspects. Exemptions can be requested for a module, after contact with the coordinator. If you don’t have a bachelor’s or master’s degree, you should contact the coordinator first.

Program

The postgraduate Drone Business Architect consists of three modules out of a total of 20 credits. The weekly evening classes take place at DronePort in Sint-Truiden or PXL in Hasselt and are taught by accredited teachers and industry experience experts.

Module 1: Aviation

In the module Aviation explore the general regulations in the aviation sector and aircraft technology. Weather conditions are crucial for flying drones, so meteorology is also extensively covered. In addition, we zoom in on basic navigation in the skies and learn to read aviation maps. We are looking at the privacy law and the new European legislation on drones. And if you ever want to become a drone pilot yourself, we’ll give you the right guidelines to prepare for the exam, as well as an initiation flight with a drone.

Module 2: Technology

A well-founded view of what drones are and what they can do at the moment and in the near future is discussed in the Technology module. Students will be introduced to different types of drones, cameras and sensors. Various applications and innovative business cases are extensively discussed. It also zooms in on themes such as autonomous flying, drones and artificial intelligence, edge computing, end-to-end security, swarming and 5G.

Together we will visit a renowned drone fair in Amsterdam in December and you will come into contact with numerous drone companies via the Flemish drone federation.

Module 3: Business

How to build a drone business? This question gets an answer within the module Business. We’ll help you discover drone opportunities or better assess the feasibility of deploying a drone solution.

You will learn to create a business canvas model and we will guide you to market an innovative drone idea to the right target group. We do this together with companies that come to present their drone business case for the classroom. In small teams of 2 to 4 students, you will learn to write a concrete business plan and gain experience to turn new knowledge and technological challenges into market-ready solutions.

Practical

The postgraduate Drone Business Architect consists of three modules out of a total of 20 credits. The weekly evening classes are given by accredited teachers and industry experience experts. A large part of the theory lessons can be followed both on location (DronePort in Sint-Truiden or PXL in Hasselt) and online remotely. This way you decide how and when you are training

 

Price

The registration fee for the entire course of the programme is 1,750 euros. Exemptions for a particular module can be requested. The kthe price per module is then 400 euros each for Drone aviation and Drone technology. Only the Drone business & cases module costs 1,200 euros.

Data

The training starts on Tuesday 29 September 2020.
Classes take place on Tuesday evenings from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and run until the beginning of June.

Location

Theory lessons from the module ‘Aviation’ and ‘Technology’, and partly from the module ‘Business’ continue on location but can also be followed via online video streaming from home.

Evaluation and attestation

 

The programme covers three modules out of a total of 20 credits. The Aviation and Technology modules are evaluated separately (orally or in writing). The evaluation of the Business module is done via a detailed case in group, where you write a business plan and to which a final presentation is linked.

If you succeed as the holder of at least a bachelor’s degree in all parts, you will receive the certificate of the postgraduate. Those who do not have a higher education diploma or who have not completed all courses will receive a certificate of participation, whether or not marked ‘passed’ (only after following all courses and if successful).

CASES

Within this training, students work in small teams on business cases together with companies. In this way, they learn to apply their acquired knowledge in practice and help companies to draw up a business plan or an innovation dossier. At the end of module Business they pitch their plans to the Jury.

Teachers

The lessons of this course are taught by both experienced teachers and business professionals. In this way, we create an inspiring mix between the exchange of theoretical knowledge and the years of practical experience of the guest teachers.
